Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)

The rhinoplasty procedure is a surgical procedure that is used to reshape or repair the nose. It is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures performed annually. It is an elective surgery performed for a number of different reasons.

Rhinoplasty is used to:

  • Change the size of the nose
  • Change the tip of the nose
  • Narrow the nostril opening
  • Change the angle between the upper lip and nose
  • Correct injury or birth defect
  • To alleviate breathing problems

Length of the procedure: 1 to 2 hours

Hospital Stay:Most patents are released form care within 1 day their procedure.

Recovery before traveling home:Patients seeking rhinoplasty through medical tourism can return home within 7 to 10 days of their procedure.

Travel Tip:It is best to plan to stay after you have rhinoplasty to accommodate post operative care. Most surgeons require a follow-up visit in the days immediately following the procedure. Find a hotel near the clinic where you have the surgery for easy access to medical care. The clinic you choose may have a hotel they recommend.

Procedure Details

Your surgery will begin with the administration of general anesthesia. In some cases a doctor may use local anesthesia and sedation, so you are awake but comfortable during the procedure. Either way, you will not experience any pain. The surgeon will need to make incisions inside the nostrils to make the necessary changes. They may also make an incision around the base of your nose. Through these cuts they will shape the underlying structure of the nose.

The surgeon will place a splint on the outside of the nose to help hold the new shape in place during healing. They will also use nasal packs to keep the air passages stable. Sutures will close any incisions made during the procedure.

After the Procedure

After the procedure you will be taken to recovery. Your vitals will be monitored carefully during this time. When your vitals are stable you will be moved to a regular hospital room or released from care. Immediately following the surgery your nose and face will be swollen and painful. You may also experience frequent headaches. Any nasal packing that was placed during surgery will be removed within 3 to 5 days of the procedure.

Self care after liposuction:

  • No blowing your nose for 1 week
  • Avoid wearing glasses or resting anything on your nose for at least 2 months
  • Keep your head elevated while you sleep for 7 days
  • Light activity for 2 to 3 weeks

Generally, most patients satisfied with the results of rhinoplasty. That said, healing from this procedure can take several weeks. Many people experience pain, numbness and swelling for months following the procedure. In fact, the final results of the procedure may not be entirely visible for year.
